What to Do When You Burn Yourself All of us have experienced some form of burn in our lifetime, some of them being more severe than others. Whenever you have a slight burn or perhaps a sunburn, there are a number of different things that you can do which will help to heal the area and stop the burning sensation. Although there are a lot of old wives tales that are floating around about natural cures that really work, there are really very few that can help and we may not always have those ingredients available to us. There are a few common things that we can do, however, that tend to work well. Regardless of how you got burnt, and as long as it is not a severe and open burn, you can generally cool it immediately by running some cool water over the burn itself. This is generally done straight from the faucet, and you should not add any ice to the water in order to cool it down even further. A little bit of cool water goes a long way, and not only will it help to clean any debris off of the area which may lead to infection, it helps to pull the heat away from the skin and to make the healing start. If you happen to have any aloe vera around the home, and many of us do, this is also an excellent cure and treatment from mild burn. If you have an aloe vera plant, cut the leaf close to the plant and slice the skin of the leaf lengthwise along the leaf and you can then expose the gel inside, even removing it and putting it directly on the burn. If you only have aloe vera lotion, you can simply rub it on the area, being careful not to damage the skin even further. Other common items that can be found around the home which help with burns include apple cider vinegar, raw honey, baking soda, slice of tomato or even a slice of potato. All of these things have properties which can assist in helping you to heal even faster and to get you started on the road to recovery. It may be necessary for you to treat yourself in this way a number of different times in order for the healing to take place, but once it is done, it will be well worth the effort.
